Policies and Guidelines for Smoke-Free Homes
A community-driven, voluntary movement toward tobacco-free households and healthier neighborhoods.
ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
Voluntary & Action-Oriented: The Smoke-Free Homes Program is a voluntary, non-penalizing campaign designed to encourage families to maintain smoke-free and vape-free living spaces.
Family-Centered Protection: Designed specifically for the Filipino context—where extended families often share enclosed spaces—to protect children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with existing health conditions from secondhand smoke.
Shifting Social Norms: By anchoring tobacco control in everyday settings, the program makes smoking and vaping socially unacceptable and promotes healthy habits early at home.
WHAT DEFINES A SMOKE-FREE HOME?
No visible cigarette butts, ashtrays, lighters, or vaping devices inside or around the home
No household members currently smoking, or smokers are actively attempting to quit
There are visible signages and communication materials on the harms of smoking inside and outside the household.
Enrollment of smokers in cessation services such as Brief Tobacco Intervention (BTI)- Presence of IEC or “No Smoking / No Vaping” materials displayed in the home
Absence of secondhand smoke exposure, including smoke entering from neighboring homes
Consideration of household members with tobacco-related illness for health monitoring
SIMPLE STEPS TO MAKE YOUT HOME SMOKE-FREE
